WOKHA — The Chukitong Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) has announced a temporary suspension of its blockade on movement of trucks along the NH-2 stretch in Chukitong town, Wokha district, following a formal request from the Wokha Police and progress in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run incident.
The blockade, which began on December 26, was in response to the death of CTYO member Meribemo Patton, who was killed in a hit-and-run on December 24.
In a letter addressed to CTYO, the Superintendent of Police, Wokha, expressed condolences and confirmed that the truck (NL-07A/2482) involved in the incident had been identified and seized.
The accused driver, Chotalal Yadav (40), remains absconding, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him, the police stated.
In an official notification, the CTYO stated that the suspension aims to allow reasonable time for the police to complete their investigation. However, the organisation warned that the blockade would resume if the concerned authorities fail to arrest the accused within the anticipated period.
