DIMAPUR — Upon successful abstention from the just concluded Lok Sabha election in Nagaland, civil society organisations (CSOs) from eastern Nagaland that spearheaded the campaign across six districts, have expressed gratitude to the citizens particularly, village authorities, women, political party workers and volunteers for their support.

In a press statement, the CSOs comprising Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), tribal hohos, Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation (ENWO) and Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF) said the region had “delivered a resounding message of discontent and solidarity reflecting the collective voice and will of the people” by successfully implementing the “historic mass abstention”.

“Refraining from voting demonstrated our resentment, this asserts our right to demand recognition of our movement, and for which, we chose peaceful resistance over confrontation. With the successful abstention by overwhelming solidarity conveys the powerful message through our actions to those who are in the helm of power that the voices of EN populace can be no longer ignored nor silenced,” read the statement.

Stating that the effort won’t go unnoticed, the CSOs assured to go the extra mile until their voices are heard and their grievances addressed, while seeking continued support from the public.

They also urged the chief minister to “desist from inflicting any political repercussions on our 20 MLAs and the government servants from eastern Nagaland region under any circumstances” in the backdrop of the mass abstention, while expressing confidence that he would appreciate the support provided by the people of the region in his leadership since DAN-1.

“Citizens of Eastern Nagaland shall stand behind them in the face of any political adversity,” read the statement.

The CSOs went on to thank to the Sumi Youth Organisation and Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation for extending their solidarity and concern during the hard times.
