DIMAPUR — Nagaland Chief Secretary and chairman of State Executive Committee (SEC) of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), J Alam, on Wednesday chaired the monsoon preparation meeting through video conferencing with the state DGP Rupin Sharma and ADGP Renchamo in the presence of Home Commissioner Vikeye, Commissioner and Secretary Lhouchalie Viya, NSDMA officials and all the deputy commissioners and chairpersons of DDMA at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall.
The meeting was held to review preparedness of the districts for the upcoming monsoon season, stated an update from NSDMA.
It stated that the chief secretary took a detailed review of the status of availability of foodgrains, essential medicines and road connectivity etc in each district. He asked the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to conduct social work in their respective districts and take steps to clear drainages and culverts with the help of other government departments for smooth water flow.
Alam also directed all road construction agencies to position adequate machineries at vulnerable spots on arterial roads for emergency road clearance in case of any rain induced blockades.
He further directed all the deputy commissioners and chairpersons of DDMA to work closely with other line departments to address the issues and activate inter-agency groups (IAG) involving civil societies and other NGOs for proper information dissemination and smooth management during disasters.
The meeting with the districts was followed with a review of the road connectivity issues with NHIDCL, state PWD officials led by the Commissioner and Secretary of Works and Housing, K Yhome, and respective chief engineers.
Report stated that the commissioner and secretary of Urban Development, Kenilo Apon, and other senior officials of Urban Development department and NSDMA were also present.
All the agencies were directed to ensure proper connectivity and functionality of major roads in the state during the monsoon period.
