CS launches SBIK in State

State Chef Secretary, Banuo Z Jamir, today stressed that reliable Space Based Information Kiosk (SBIK) was essential for strategic decision making and added that North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) as a regional centre for north eastern region would help in building necessary capacity to facilitate in all round planning and development of the State.
Director of North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Department of Space, Government of India, along with five officials and scientist came to Nagaland for release of the Space Based Information Kiosk (SBIK) portal on April 30.
An appraisal meeting on NESAC activities was held in the conference hall of the Chief Secretary on May 1 where administrative Head of Department from different line departments have attended the meeting.Delivering her welcome address at the launching the SBIK, State chief secretary has thanked Director of NESAC for considering Nagaland state on priority in the NER for release of the SBIK Portal. She informed that a reliable space based information is essential for strategic decision making and added that NESAC as a regional Centre of North Eastern Region would help in building necessary capacity to facilitate in all-round planning and development of the State.
Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner, HK Khulu, in his opening remark, stated that State government, realizing the importance of Geospatial technology, has envisaged the creation of GIS Centre to integrate the state-of-art remote sensing and GIS technique with conventional system to facilitate optimum utilization of State’s natural resources through effective planning. He expressed optimism that the State in partner with NESAC would play a vital role for the growth and development of the State. He further urged all scientists involved to uphold the principal of dedication and generation of unaltered, useful and meaningful information that would lead our region forward.
Director of NESAC has presented a Powerpoint presentation on the different activities of NESAC Centre on land resources information, forest & agri, water resources, geology & geomorphological application, urban infrastructure, planning & disaster management. He also gave a briefing on the different facilities available at NESAC Centre. Also, highlighting on the Satellite Communication Technology of NESAC, he stressed on the application of tele-medicine & Edu-sat, village resources centre programme and weather forecasting technology.
The meeting was followed by a threadbare discussion with different line departments on the application of geospatial technology in relating to their concerned sector.
The meeting continued with the monthly of AHOD & HOD in the Secretariat Conference Hall for the release of SBIK Portal in which NESAC Director gave a presentation on the application of SBIK Portal which contains geospatial thematic layers of information such as administrative details, infrastructure related information, land resources, water resources, disaster information and also satellite data, briefing on the spatial module on the portal and the various GIS tools for easy navigation and data query.
The State chief secretary has congratulated NESAC and the State GIS Centre for successful implementation of the portal and urged all the departments for optimum use of the portal which would be of immense importance for policy makers as well as the line departments for perspective planning and development. She latter released the SBIK portal for official use.
