[dropcap]N[/dropcap]agas in 2015. Situation indicates that it is going to be a crucial year. There are several issues confronting the Nagas. Of these, the Naga political issue is going to dominate the better period of the year. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government under Narendra Modi has been saying that the Naga political issue will be settled in a ‘time-bound’ manner. Some NDA leaders have even gone to the extent of saying that six months will be fine to settle the issue. These comments have come amid frustration and restlessness among the Nagas who have been fooled for the past fifteen years by various elements with assurances of early settlement of the issue. Today, however, the Nagas do not take lightly the assurance of the NDA government under Mr Modi for many reasons. They keep their faith with Narendra Modi. The Nagas think he is the best hope to solve the Naga political issue. Indeed, he is the man of the moment.Also, over 70% of Indians are satisfied with the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi since he took office last May, an opinion poll showed, seeing in him the best hope to resolve so many issues. The ‘Mood of the Nation Poll’ by India Today-Hansa Research ‘stands out in contrast with the disappointment that top political economists, including those who advised the Modi campaign, have voiced over his failure to announce big bang reforms.’
Meanwhile, in the event of the failure to settle this decades old Naga political issue by this year it is unlikely the equation will remain the same. The Nagas will no longer repose their faith on the Naga national leaders. The Nagas will not trust the Government of India anymore. The level of frustration and disunity among the Nagas will be very high. This development will, in turn, give serious other complicated ramifications. In such event the adversaries of the Nagas will harvest on the situation. This will definitely be the end game.
Given this grim picture, today we are at the cross-road. So, it has become a matter of urgency for every Naga to contribute to what it takes the Nagas to oneness.
