DIMAPUR — In a letter to the president of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), the Chozuba Range Public Organisation (CRPO) has announced its decision to disassociate from the Chakhesang-Sumi brotherhood in all manners in protest against the handling of a dispute that arose in September this year.

The dispute involves an alleged altercation between one Abel Asumi and officials of the Chozuba Town Youth Association (CTYA) on September 5.

In the aftermath, Asumi filed an FIR against CTYA members, while Sumi Hoho also lodged a complaint with the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO). CTYA filed a counter complaint (criminal defamation) against Asumi. Subsequently, four CTYA officials were arrested on September 7.

According to a letter by the CRPO, dated November 13, the CPO apologised to the Sumi Hoho regarding the incident without consulting the Chozuba community. Though the apology was presumed to have been later withdrawn, CRPO claims it was never formally shown to them.

Over the next few weeks, several meetings were held between CRPO and CPO to resolve the parallel cases—Asumi versus CTYA pending in court and Sumi Hoho versus CRPO pending in the CPO’s jurisdiction.

The letter mentioned that at the September 30 meeting, the CRPO conceded to the wish of the CPO and jury board to settle the pending cases at the apex bodies’ level; however, on the pre-conditional term of Sumi Hoho’s formal withdrawal letter and intimation to the CRPO.

“This withdrawal letter, if done so is never shown to the CRPO till date,” it alleged, and added that on October 3, the CPO came to an agreement with Sumi Hoho at Zunheboto, even though the demand remained unfulfilled.

CRPO has described this agreement as a “betrayal and imposition”.

“Presumed solution without public hearing of concerned parties as desired by the aggrieved or at least formal withdrawal of complaint letter against the aggrieved prior to the settlement/ agreement is no solution at all,” the letter read.

“The CRPO shall henceforth disassociate from Chakhesang-Sumi Brotherhood in all manners of relationship till such time the downplayed issue is settled in right perspective,” it stated.
