Dimapur, Oct. 21 (EMN): The 78 Bn Central Reserve Police force (CRPF), Zubza, Kohima led by Anil Kr. Jha Commandant (AOD) observed the Police Commemoration Day on October 21 by paying tribute to all the brave souls who sacrificed their life for the nation.

A press release from RGS 78 Bn informed that it remembered its two brave soldiers — A Sakthivel and Aneesh Philip — who laid their lives during a special operation conducted against militants at Bhaderwah (J&K) on June 29 2005 after killing a militant during the occasion. The soldiers were awarded President Police medal for Gallantry (Posthumous) in 2007.

The 78 Bn CRPF, Zubza, also organised quiz competition as well as cultural programme with patriotic fervour for students at its headquarters on October 20.

According to the statement from the CRPF, the CRPF bore the brunt of the first Chinese attack on India at Hot Springs (Ladakh) on October 21, 1959 where 10 personnel made supreme sacrifice for the country while seven others escaped from the captivity of the Chinese troops. It added that the Chinese troops handed over the dead bodies of the martyred policemen to India on November 28, 1959 and their cremation was done with full police honours at the Hot Springs in Ladakh. Their martyrdom on October 21 is remembered throughout the country as the Police Commemoration Day every year.
