[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hen each of more than half a dozen ‘governments’ (including the government of India) says it is the sole authority and imposes its terms on the people we can imagine the bedraggled and confused masses struggling to adjust the situation. The situation is all the more disheveled and unkempt when the masses begin to have their own affiliations with the various ‘governments’ in the course of time. In trying to prove it is the ultimate authority each ‘government’ will try to outdo the other and in the process, to the people, these authorities become disdainful and haughty. In such a situation there can never be a limit to unfairness and confusion. The reason for this mindless game is extremely difficult to fathom by the masses as there is the absence of act-what-you-preach.For someone drunk in this melee, which situation to some extent motivated by tribalism, to work for a common welfare is a ridiculous affair. This is because there is an intense consonance of interests (between like-minded elements) in supporting the destabilisation of the other.
So, clash of interests (among various ‘governments’) has been the main impediment for our society from moving forward.
What is the remedy now? Intense engagement of tribal hohos best suits the Naga situation, though we see failures in several cases. This is the nearest path to solution though tough. Naga intellectuals should also end their involuntary exile in the interest of the society. Without wasting time the hohos and the intellectuals should commit themselves to endorsing the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) in full force. The future of Nagas is bleak sans a platform like FNR.
