DIMAPUR — To observe World Suicide Prevention Day with the theme ‘Creating Hope through Action,’ the Carl Rogers Institute of Mental Health and School Counselling (CRIMHSC), Kohima, held a live session on Instagram on suicide on September 10 in collaboration with internet sensation Aseno Ayemi.

During the session, Ayemi shared her views and personal experiences about her journey and how words from people who are unsupportive of her work have had an adverse effect on her personal life, according to a press release.

She also said that people need to think twice before they say anything ill about someone because they don’t know what it can do to the other person.

Kezhazolie Cornelius Mere, chairman of the CRIMHSC, Vetalu Nyekha, executive member, and Anupam Talwar Kohli, resource person, all shared their professional perspectives on the current state of mental health and how society views suicide as a disgrace and is still reluctant to speak up.

They also emphasised the importance of raising awareness in order to break the stigmas that exist in society at large.

A total of 4,899 individuals participated in the programme, which concluded with advice on where to seek assistance in times of need and encouragement to begin normalising discussions on mental health.
