Crime rate in Dimapur declines by 60% during lockdown

Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): Crime rate in Dimapur district dropped drastically during the Covid-induced total lockdown period between May 4 and the 29th (26 days), registering only 20 cases in various police stations and 20 persons arrested, formed the police.

“The crime rate witnessed a marked decline by approximately 60% especially in extortion-related cases during the total lockdown,” read the press note from the office of Dimapur Police Commissioner. “Besides the enforcement of Covid-19 SOP within the district, Dimapur Police has also been simultaneously carrying out intensive Inter-State border patrolling especially in Niuland, Dhansiripar and west zone areas. Further, armed mobile escorts are being provided to transport trucks and intensive mobile and foot patrolling are also deployed round the clock for prevention and detection of crime to ensure public safety,” it added.
