CPI delegation calls on Manipur Governor

IMPHAL — A CPI delegation led by its general secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP, D Raja, along with six others called on Manipur Governor, Anusuiya Uikey, at Raj Bhavan this evening and apprised her of the present situation of the internally displaced people (IDP) staying in various relief camps.

Raja, while informing the Governor, said his team visited different relief camps in Imphal, Moirang and Churachandpur where most of the displaced people have expressed desire for peace and normalcy to be restored at the earliest.

He said some of the IDP, mainly children and women, required urgent medical facilities.

The issue on possession of arms and ammunitions in both hills and valley districts was also raised with the governor by the delegation.

Governor, while appreciating their goodwill gesture, informed the team that she personally met central leaders and urged them to find ways to end the conflict at the earliest possible time. She also informed that CBI team has been constituted to probe cases against women, while the Supreme Court has also constituted a committee of three former women judges to oversee humanitarian measures.

Lt. Gen. (Retd) L Nishikanta Singh also called on Governor at Raj Bhavan today and apprised on their activities towards improving the education sectors in the state. He highlighted the various activities taken up by his organisation and informed that they have donated INR 20 lakh to relief camps.

Meanwhile, the president of All Manipur Lady Advocates Association, Ch Kiranbala Devi, along with 5 others also called on the governor at Raj Bhavan today and shared the various hardships and difficulties faced by the people of Manipur due to the ongoing crisis.

The team appealed to the governor for restoration of peace and normalcy at the earliest.
