Dimapur, Aug. 3 (EMN):
Another day of record spike saw Nagaland’s Covid-19 tally soar to 2129 even as 194 fresh cases were registered on Monday.

For four consecutive days now, Nagaland has recorded more than one hundred Covid-19 positive cases in a single day. From July 31 to August 3, the cumulative number of cases detected in the state is 554.

On Sunday, the Health minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, had asserted that despite the sharp rise in the number of cases, there is no community transmission in the state yet.

According to the minister, 845 samples were tested for Covid-19 on Monday, out of which 194 cases returned positive: 136 in Dimapur, 36 in Zunheboto and 22 in Kohima.

Accounting for almost 59% of Monday’s cases, 113 were armed forces personnel; 33 returnees; 23 frontline workers; 24 traced contacts; and one classified as others with an asterisk.

According to the Heath department, the asterisk was to indicate “cases related to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly session, Raj Bhavan, and patients excluding returnees”.

As per information provided by the Health department, there were 1464 active Covid-19 cases, 657 recoveries, and four deaths as of August 3.

In his daily briefing, Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha informed that as per the severity of symptoms, 1,462 active cases were asymptomatic, one active case was mild and another active case was receiving oxygen therapy.

“Till date, a total of 25,738 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR and results of 23,615 samples have been received. Out of the 16,819 samples received at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), a total of 15,857 samples have been tested and 1,416 samples have tested positive.

“In addition, a total of 16,932 samples have been sent for testing on TrueNat and 510 samples have tested positive which have been sent for confirmation by RT-PCR. A total of 2,366 persons are presently under facility quarantine,” he informed.
