Covid-19 claims fourth victim in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, March 11 (EMN): A seventy-four year old woman succumbed to Covid-19 at District Hospital in Mokokchung district on Saturday evening. She was the fourth victim to lose her battle against the contagious virus in the district.

Official sources from the Health department disclosed that the patient was first brought to a private hospital where she was detected Covid-19 positive and was immediately referred to Covid-19 Hospital.

A source disclosed that she had diarrhoea and shortness of breath when admitted to the hospital. However, she succumbed to the virus that evening (April 10). The victim’s daughter, who had a travel history from Delhi, was also admitted at the hospital and the family members were kept in isolation, the source added.

Meanwhile, in connection to this case, Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Limawabang Jamir had ordered sealing of seven houses within the town till further orders to carry out intensive contact tracing to contain the spread of the virus.

The houses were H/No. 321 Kumlong ward, H/No. 246 (ABC), Kumlong ward, H/No. 225 Kumlong ward, H/No. 296 (Block 3), Kumlong ward, H/No. 222 (A/B) Kumlong ward, H/No. 340 Kumlong ward and H/No. 54 Mongsenbai.

The order also stated that the containment zone was mapped and cordoned off; the public and all concerned have been advised to follow all safety precautions of wearing masks all the time, frequently washing of hands and maintaining social/physical distances to ensure public and personal safety within the proximity of the containment zone.

“Failure to comply with the guideline shall attract penalization under section 51 and 60 of the Disaster Management Act 2005, the Epidemic Disease Act 1897 and relevant sections of the IPC, the order warned.
