Corruption likened to cancer disease

Describing corruption as a form of disease similar to cancer, which spreads and affects all nearby tissues, president of VDB Secretaries’ Association, Neivikuolie stated combating corruption in the society needs the support and active participation of all the citizens starting from the grass root level. Stating that corruption is inherently rooted in human beings, he said the fight against corruption cannot be done by an organisation or individual alone. He said sincere concerted effort from the grass root to the top most levels is required in order to do away with this menace that is plaguing the Naga society. DRDA Project Officer, Kohima, Sihu Bizo opined that corruption starts from own self. He remarked that when a person’s mind is corrupt, his deed and acts will be automatically corrupt. Stressing on the need to change mindset, Bizo cited ‘accountability and adaptability’ as the most important components for a corruption free system. He suggested adopting these two components so that fund meant for any development works are utilised to the optimal. Customer Assistant, SBI Sechü Zubza, Nilesh Gurung, in his short speech highlighted on the objectives of the Central Vigilance Commission which endeavours to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public life. He said observance of vigilance awareness week every year is one such outreach measure wherein all the stakeholders are encouraged to prevent and combat corruption. Also noting the many frauds relating to bank, Gurung reminded the gathering not to pay any money under the table for obtaining loan or other benefits. This, he said will bring about transparency and helps counter corruption in the society. He also advised the public to never leak ATM pin code, debit card number, internet banking password and not to sign a blank cheque for others. The programme concluded with pledge taking led by Project Officer, DRDA, Kohima Sihu Bizo.
