Coronavirus: Dimapur initiates preventive measures

Dimapur, Feb. 5 (EMN): A day after Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio convened a high-level meeting in Kohima to discuss issues concerning the novel coronavirus, Dimapur district administration conducted a meeting with the officials in the office chamber of the Dimapur deputy commissioner, to discuss its preparedness for the virus.

An update from Dimapur DC Anoop Khinchi informed that several preventive measures were adopted during the meeting on Wednesday.

A District Task Force for novel coronavirus has been formed with the deputy commissioner, commissioner of police, chief medical officer, medical superintendent, administrator, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), chief veterinary officer, director of Airport Authority of India, station manager of Dimapur railway station, extra assistant commissioner of Chümoukedima, district public relations officer, SMO, WHO, Kohima and Team Leader Rapid Response Team as members, informed the update.

The house decided to coordinate with the Railway department by initiating measures like public announcements display system at Dimapur railway station to disseminate awareness on the virus. The medical department will also set up a helpdesk at various locations in Dimapur railway station.

Screening of passengers at Dimapur airport for those coming from affected countries, which started on January 30, will continue, informed the update.

The DMC has been entrusted with the installation of a display system in town to inform the public not to panic but take precautionary measures. The house has decided to advise the public to cooperate with Health and Family Welfare department and those who travelled to the affected countries on or after January 15 to report to the authorities if they have any symptoms of coronavirus infection.
