Dimapur, May 31 (EMN): Citing practical difficulties in accommodating all the fresh returnees, Dimapur district core committee on Covid-19 has sought early action of the government to allow all returnees, who have completed 14-day institutional quarantine, to go to their respective districts without mandatory testing and those from Dimapur district be released from home quarantine.

The committee sought the government’s action during its meeting held on May 30 in the conference hall of Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, a DIPR report stated. While appreciating the decision of the state government to test all returnees and to send them to their respective districts only after confirmation of the test result, the committee however pointed out that it would not be possible to accommodate fresh returnees if those returnees, who had completed 14-day quarantine period, are not released.

With only one BSL-3 lab at Kohima, the committee stated that testing of all returnees would take a long time as it has a limited capacity. As many returnees from other districts have completed the mandatory 14-day institutional quarantine, the committee stated that it would not be possible to test all the returnees, who are not showing any symptoms.

The committee also stated that any returnee showing symptoms would be retained and tested in Dimapur even after completion of 14-day quarantine.
Also stating that the committee would not object to retain all Covid-19 positive returnees from Mon and Peren at Dimapur, it however, urged the government to urgently identify one more Covid-19 hospital.

The committee further suggested that all fresh returnees be sent to their respective districts after thorough screening and triaging of the returnees, due to paucity of resources. It further stated that the state government might bring back the stranded Naga citizens from other states after accepting the suggestions.
