Kohima, June 3 (EMN): In consonance with the call of the Nagaland government to improve the state’s economy through agricultural activities, a renowned government registered contractor, Pele Khezhie, has started investing in about 800 acres of land with various agri and allied activities near Dzüdza river of Viphoma village in Kohima district.
Fearing that the current Covid-19 pandemic situation would have an adverse impact leading to scarcity of food products in the near future, he decided to take up farming by involving villagers of Viphoma, said Khezie, who is also president of Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union (NCSU), while interacting with media persons.
“The forefathers of our Naga people survived through farming activities and we also have to get back to our fertile soil in order to be self-sufficient and self-reliant while also making efforts towards boosting the overall economy of the state,” said Khezhie.
With activities coming to a standstill due to the lockdown to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, he said only agricultural activities and farming will be able to help Naga people to be self-reliant.
Adhering with social distancing protocols, Khezhie garnered villagers of Viphoma under Chiephobozou sub-division, Kohima and sowed paddy seeds in the farm.
Khezhie also plans to undertake fishery and piggery farming soon.
