Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN): Consumption of alcohol and use of tobacco during pregnancy increases the chance of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and fetal alcohol spectrum disability, said Keyizieteing Ndang, PMMVY Peren district co-ordinator.

Ndang was speaking at an awareness seminar organised by the Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC) and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) under the department of Social Welfare, at Police New Reserve in Peren town on Thursday, an update informed.

He also spoke on the importance of getting timely medical check-up during pregnancy and after childbirth, exclusive breast feeding for the first six months after childbirth and timely vaccination and how it helps in reducing infant mortality rate.

IT staff of Sakhi-One Stop Centre Akosi Khate gave a brief introduction to OSC and 181, its functions and services. He also spoke on the 10 legal rights of women and how women should stand up for themselves in the future.

Pastor Police Baptist Church Peren, Dr. Hiazuheing Ndang thanked the Social Welfare department for coming forward and enlightening the police community on the various government schemes to women.

Case worker of Sakhi-One Stop Centre Peheilusile Haisobe and counsellor Grace Newmai enlightened the police personnel about various schemes for women, OSC, Women Helpline 181, legal rights for women and how to avail the services.
