Conman sedates victim

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 18

THE Railway Protection Force (RPF) Tuesday night arrested a person for allegedly lacing a passenger with drugs. The accused identified as one Najir Ahmed, 25 years, son of Nasir Ahmed Uddin of Nartom Panigaon, Assam, was arrested by the Anti Drugging Cell of RPF after he was caught red handed. According to the RPF personnel, the accused repeatedly asked the victim to join him for a cup of tea. The victim, also a non Naga, at first refused, but later complied with the man’s insistent request.
The victim has reportedly remained unconscious well into Wednesday.
It was alert RPF Police personnel who had been observing the duo and prevented a theft from taking place. They moved into action and arrested the accused before he could get-the-better-of the drugged victim. The victim who had fallen unconscious was whisked away to the Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
The RPF personnel recovered one pill from two empty strips of sedatives from the accused which he had used to lace the tea offered to the victim.
The RPF team was led by ASI A James along with constables Ankat Singh and Susulangba Ao.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered and further investigations are on into the incident, according to RPF officer in-charge Roko Pucho.
He has also advised passengers not to accept food items from strangers while on a journey or anywhere to avoid similar kind of incidents.
