Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): Claiming that Congress party will come to power by the end of May, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie, stated that winning Lok Sabha election in the state would strengthen the party in the centre.
The veteran politician was speaking at an event on March 23 at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, organised to formally welcome members of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) into the Indian National Congress (INC).
Stressing on the three main agenda of the party - to vigorously oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016, press for Naga political solution, and to propagate secularism or freedom of religion, Therie asserted “this is the way forward for the state of Nagaland.”
Therie has described as “decisive decision” on the part of the LJP members to join Congress at this important juncture and adding that grassroot people, who constituted the most important section in the society would be given participation in every sphere.
Therie lashed out at the government of the day alleging them of finishing crores of money without landing to the ground or vanishing in the skies. He pointed out to the low performance in national assessment and huge deficit budget as a case in point.
“The state remains the same as fifteen years ago, we have forgotten who have worked at the grassroots,” Therie added.
“If NDPP gets the seat at the centre, they will, among more than 500 representatives, be an outsider and a loner but Congress’ victory to LS seat will not only benefit the party at the centre but also pave way for major agendas to be fulfilled for the welfare of the state,” he stressed.
Rosemary Kithan, mahila president of LJP Dimapur district, commented that LJP party although existed in the state for the last four years made no progress, which convinced them to join the congress party.
“Since the Congress has offered us a platform to work hand and hand, we are happy to join and work with them,” she said.
More than 50 LJP mahilas attended the meet.
