As polling for general election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly concluded on Monday evening, the Indian National Congress has expressed discontentment over untoward incidents being reported at several places during the voting, terming it as a mockery to  Representation of People’s Act.

Despite the Clean Election Movement initiated by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) to ensure free and fair elections, the state has failed with unbecoming tactics like proxy voting, vote manipulation and booth capturing being employed in many polling stations, alleged Congress’ State In-charge, Dr. Ajoy Kumar and Chairperson, Communications Committee, NPCC, Wezote Kreo, in a press release.

“There have been reports of other instances where polling agents of Congress candidates have been pulled out from the polling station, proxy voting being indulged in, interference by village councils and also reports of violence and tension in various pockets across the state,” read the press release.

“Congress party strongly reprimands such aspersion of the adult franchise and we strongly invoke the power vested in the Election Commission of India with respect to the Representation of People’s Act 1951, to take Cognizance of and remedify such gross misconduct on priority,” it added.
