Dimapur, May 9 (EMN): The Nagaland unit of the Indian National Congress shelved its plans to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha by-elections. The media cell of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday stated to have thrown in the gauntlet with the naga People’s front instead.
“Congress has shelved plans to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha bye-election. We had earlier proposed to the NPF for setting up combined opposition candidate to uphold the principles of secularism and democracy. The NPF has gone ahead in announcing their candidate after having agreed in principle to our proposal,” the NPCC stated.
Because the Congress cannot support any political party that is aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party in one way or the other, the statement added, the committee will be ‘meeting shortly to review the situation and issue necessary directives to Congress party workers at all levels on the next course of action.’
