DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) is likely to announce the name of its candidate for parliamentary election by this week.

Speaking on the sideline of a programme on Tuesday, NPCC president, Supongmeren informed that the national screening committee would make the final list on March 7.

He alleged that the society has been distorted by evil designs of the RSS activities carried out by BJP government in the absence of Congress legislators for 20 years in the assembly. He was of opinion that the BJP is accepted by the regional NDPP and are working together under the national high command.

He alleged that the BJP is trying to divide the people of the state and the Naga political solution is being pushed away.

He expressed hope that all the people who participated at the Bharat Jodo Yatra to meet Rahul Gandhi will vote for the Congress in the upcoming election for the democracy.

When asked if the NPCC will fight the election in alliance with any other parties, he expressed hope that the parties that are under INDIA block would come forward.

He informed that the Congress party has met Rising People’s Party (RPP) with their stand to fight for secularism and youth. He also expressed hope that the NPF would also join them in the fight for secularism.

NPCC president further informed that it would set up candidates even for ULB elections.

Nagaland is proxy Christian state

Former NPCC president, K Therie, described Nagaland as a proxy Christian state as evident from booth capturing and proxy voting by some GBs and youth during elections.

He claimed that Congress is the only party that can reform Nagaland as well as restore the moral of Nagaland. He encouraged the participants of the leadership training camps to go back to the society and asked them to vote for Congress saying, “This may be the last vote to save democracy.”

Congress Seva Dal leadership training camp underway

A three-day leadership training of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (NPCSD) got underway on Tuesday at Hokhezhe Farm near Nihokhu village in Niuland district.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, NPCC president, Supongmeren, stated that Seval dal is the backbone of the Congress as they are the most senior members. He also asked the party workers to come forward and encourage the leaders and work together hand-in-hand.

He further stated that the leaders and members should be serious with their work,

The special guest of the programme, Nagavito Sumi, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) member from Ghaspani I, shared that he joined NPCC in 2013 and became a member of PCC in 2017 and was given the party ticket to contest in 2018 election.

Nagavito shared that he is with the Congress party as he believed that Congress would one day come to power.

Citing instances of BJP rule states in the northeast such as Manipur and Assam, he pointed that many churches were burnt down in Manipur following the ethnic conflict, while the Assam government has passed the “The Assam Healing (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024.”

He stated that the people should not depend on the present leaders of the state as he expressed apprehension that Nagas will be also be affected if a bill like ‘Uniform Civil Code’ is passed after some years. In conclusion, he appealed to the people to support the Congress leaders as they are standing for the people.

Short speeches were also delivered by Chandan Burua, All India Congress Seval Dal secretary of NE in-charge, and Kutoho Chshi, president of Dimapur District Congress Committee.
