Congress launches ‘Donate for Desh’ crowdfunding drive

DIMAPUR — The Indian National Congress has launched a nationwide crowdfunding campaign called “Donate for Desh,” which, according to the party, is modelled after Mahatma Gandhi’s historic “Tilak Swaraj Fund” of 1920–21.

A statement issued by the communication department of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said that the campaign was flagged off by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on December 18 in New Delhi and aims to bring individual donors back to the centre stage of electoral resource mobilisation “in an era dominated by PM Modi’s opaque and oligarchic electoral bonds”.

The inaugural campaign will be a commemorative initiative, celebrating the Indian National Congress’ 138-year history.

Donations in multiples of INR 138 (e.g., INR 138, INR 1,380, INR 13,800, etc.) will be solicited during this initial phase of the campaign, which will run online until December 28, the party’s foundation day, after which ground campaigns, including but not limited to door-to-door visits by volunteers, will be initiated.

The statement mentioned that members, supporters, and well-wishers who want to be a part of the campaign and contribute to the cause can do so by visiting the dedicated online portal, “donateinc.in” or by logging in to the official party website, “www.inc.in“.
