KOHIMA/DIMAPUR — Kicking off the campaign for the Lok Sabha election to the lone Parliamentary seat for Nagaland, the Indian National Congress (INC) party on Tuesday handed over the party ticket to its official candidate, S Supongmeren Jamir.

Addressing the launch event at the Congress Bhavan in Kohima, Jamir questioned the government’s commitment to resolving the long-standing Naga political issue, especially in light of the establishment of an opposition-less government, and the signing of the Framework Agreement and the Agreed position between the government of India and the Naga political groups.

He accused the government of making commitments during every election but only providing false hope to the Naga people. He maintained that the Congress party is serious about resolving the Naga political issue, in addition to addressing the demands of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO).

Jamir, who is also the President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), went on to state the INDIA bloc, once it forms a government at the centre, would resolve the pressing issues without delay.

The Congress leader also expressed displeasure with the ordeals faced by minority groups across the country under the BJP-led government, citing instances of persecution and intimidation that have instilled fear among them.

He appealed to the people of the state and the nation to vote for a party that prioritises delivering results for the people, alleging that the current ruling dispensation has not been doing enough. He also highlighted the assurances provided by the Congress party for the welfare of the people, stating their seriousness about fulfilling their commitments.
