Nomination process for NPYC polls from February 25

MOKOKCHUNG/DIMAPUR — The Congress party initiated organisational activities in Nagaland, with an All India Congress Committee (AICC) Observer visiting Mokokchung for reforms on Thursday, and the Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) launching its membership drive in Kohima.
In Mokokchung, the visit focused on implementing organisational reforms and restructuring the district-level setup under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (Organisation Building Mission).
KBR Naidu, the AICC Observer assigned to Mokokchung district, was accompanied by Rosy Thomson, general secretary, and Viseto Natso, secretary, both from the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC).
Speaking at a press conference at the District Congress Committee (DCC) Office in Mokokchung, Naidu explained that the Indian National Congress (INC) has launched the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan as a nationwide initiative for observation and transformation at the national level.
He stated that the party's central leadership aims to rebuild and reorganise the INC from the ground up. He clarified that the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan process involves collective consultations conducted democratically.

AICC Observers will engage directly with DCC office-bearers, party workers, block committee representatives, and village-level leaders across all ten Assembly constituencies in Mokokchung district, collecting firsthand insights and opinions.
Naidu revealed that, based on these interactions and feedback from the ten constituencies, party workers will be invited to recommend suitable candidates to lead the DCC Mokokchung.
He stressed that the Congress seeks a fully empowered and functional DCC, as the DCC president will play a key role in future candidate selection processes for the party. He added that similar reforms have already been completed in approximately 80 per cent of districts nationwide, with new DCC presidents appointed.
During his first visit to Mokokchung in this capacity, Naidu held meetings, consultations, and one-on-one discussions with party workers to gather their views on the ideal candidate for DCC president.
“Once identified, the selected DCC President will be fully empowered and held accountable, with the party closely monitoring their performance,” he added.
Following the appointment of the DCC president, an executive committee and a District Level Political Affairs Committee will be formed, equipped with full authority to address political and other issues affecting the public.

The initiative will extend from the DCC down to the grassroots level to build a strong Congress foundation, with the long-term focus on the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, Naidu asserted.
He confirmed that the exercise at the DCC level in the state is expected to conclude within the next 15 to 20 days.
Rosy Thomson, NPCC General Secretary, informed that 12 AICC Observers have been deployed across Nagaland.

In a separate event, the NPYC launched its membership drive and formally announced the conduct of organisational elections during a programme held at Congress Bhavan, Kohima.

Speaking on the occasion, S Supongmeren Jamir, Member of Parliament and President of NPCC, described the enrolment drive as a crucial opportunity for strengthening the Congress party at the grassroots.
