Dimapur, June 2 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has hit back at the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) over what it termed as “wild allegations”, blaming the past Congress government for the present state of poor infrastructure in the state.

The Congress stated through a press release issued by its communication department that 17 plus years was more than enough for regional parties to develop the state but it failed miserably. It also reminded the NDPP that its party leader and the incumbent CM was part of three Congress governments, holding various portfolios.

The party said that the government of Nagaland established Covid War Room only after Lockdown 1.0 got over and that a High Powered Committee has replaced numerous committees after end of Lockdown 4.0. “This shows the total failure of PDA government and we therefore advise the NDPP to concentrate on course correction of their government rather than level baseless allegations against Congress or some individual who showed them the mirror of truth,” it stated.

While stating Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s recently announced “strategy group” to build the state economy sounds good, the Congress expressed doubts on its effectiveness. “We only hope that the strategy group is not composed of the same people who have been colluding with Mr Rio to make a mockery of governance in all spheres,” it stated.

“A grave socio-economic problem is emerging in the form of thousands of returnees coming from different cities of India, after suffering tremendously during lockdown period owing to job losses, racial abuses, hunger and being evicted as tenants.

“Ironically, the same government used to trumpet about its achievement on sending thousands of our young people outside the state to earn livelihood. In connivance with some outside training institutes and placement agencies, state government had signed numerous MoUs and dispatched our people without bothering to check the antecedents of those agencies or progress of our people. The government has totally failed on this front,” the press release read.

The Congress went on to allege that Nagaland-based HR and placement agencies, some under the patronage of the state government, “have been functioning without any accountability so far” and that many such agencies “have been profiteering by even taking certain amount of percentage cut from the monthly salary of those workers sent through them”.

“Shockingly, when lockdown happened, many HR/Placement agencies and recruiting agents who were responsible for sending our people outside the state simply went incognito and left the poor workers to fend for themselves. Time has come for strong action against those who profiteered while jeopardising the lives of our people,” the Congress stated.
