Imphal, March 15: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC-I)has expelled Congress MLA elect Thounaojam Shyamkumar for six years from the party’s primary membership for not responding to a show cause notice issued by Election Commission of India(ECI), according to Congress sources in Imphal. The show cause notice was reportedly issued on March 14 by Narendra N of ECI asking Shyamkumar to respond by 11am of March 15,the source added. Since the MLA elect from Andro assembly constituency on congress ticket in Manipur’s Imphal East district failed to reply to the show cause, he has been expelled from the primary membership of the party “for his anti-party activities” for six years on Wednesday. The state’s outgoing Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh speaking to media on Wednesday also informed that the development was taken as per the rules and regulations of the MPCC-I. It may be mentioned that Congress MLA elect Shyamkumar was sworn in as a cabinet minister along with seven other ministers during the day’s swearing in ceremony of Chief Minister N Biren Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led coalition government in Manipur on Wednesday.
