Congress’ capability will be tested in 2028 election, NPCC President tells party workers
DIMAPUR — Congress party workers will work hard for the cause of the people and change the working system to meet their aspirations, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president S Supongmeren Jamir assured to the people of Nagaland.
The state party chief made this statement during the NPCC district tour programme held at the Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) office on Friday.
In the backdrop of poor performance in the last few elections to the state assembly, Jamir said if the party workers fail to carry out their responsibilities, they cannot blame anyone but themselves.
He added that the capability of the party will be seen in the 2028 state assembly election.
If the NPCC cannot produce a candidate from a district, what is the point of holding the posts in the party, and if we cannot identify our leader, whom do we blame if not the party workers led by the party president? he asked the gathering.
‘We all have to be serious enough to show to the people that we are standing together working for the state. If I cannot perform my responsibility, I should leave my position and give way to a capable leader. Let us all get together, take an oath to lead the people,’ he said.
“We should not blame the voters for failing since we could not identify the leaders at the grassroots level,” he pointed out.
During an interaction with the media, the NPCC president expressed his disappointment over the remarks of Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, CL John comment, in the just concluded assembly session in connection with the ‘human-elephant conflict’, terming it as a total disrespect not just to a particular community but to the Nagas in general and against the sanctity of the House.
“Anyone has to put forward on the order, to expunge such utterance against the loss of human life. The minister has apologised but his words have to be expunged from the records of the Assembly,” he said.
He also lamented that educated unemployed, who have the calibre to lead and serve the state are not given the opportunities.
‘The Congress is seriously concerned for the youth. We feel that they should not leave our state but serve our state,’ he said.
“The state should accommodate the youth. If Congress comes to power we will go down to the grassroots, and we have decided to build future leaders not only in the government but also in individual capacity. Congress will definitely look forward (to it) and we have our team on the line led by qualified people. We are on the job to find out how to bring the problems under one banner and solve them,” he said.
When asked about the stand of the state government on the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023 and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), NPCC vice president GK Zhimomi said the government should have come up with a very simple amendment and resolution. ‘Now, it is the public in general who have to pursue,’ he added.
Minority department chairman, Javed Sarwar, said that the Congress party has many objectives and goals to achieve for the good of the people, while calling upon the party workers not to forget why the party was formed.
‘Congress was and is and also will be the largest and the single dominant political party that stands with the people in good and in bad (times),’ he said.
DDCC president Kutoho Chishi delivered the welcome address, while Andrew Humtsoe, DDCC media secretary, proposed the vote of thanks at the event.
