Congress announces 7 guarantees for Nagaland

Congress has announced 7 guarantees for Nagaland including old-age pension of INR 3000 per month for senior citizens

Congress party has announced seven guarantees for Nagaland which included old-age pension of INR 3000 per month for senior citizens, 33% reservation for women in urban local bodies (ULB), mini-secretariat in Tuensang, payment of 100% wage under MGNREGA, loans for higher education with zero percent interest, clean drinking water and sanitation facilities for all urban and rural areas and compulsory sports training after HSLC.

This was announced by the president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie, during a press conference held at Congress Bhavan in Dimapur on Friday on the theme ‘Ase Upai Ase.’

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha member and AICC general secretary in-charge of communications department, Jairam Ramesh, has accepted the challenge for a debate on manifesto put forward by the BJP on the condition that the latter answer on three point agenda.

Firstly, he stated that BJP must answer on ‘election for solution,’ which has turned out to be ‘election for confusion.’ He added that the BJP must give clarity on framework agreement after it was drafted.

Secondly, Ramesh stated that BJP must categorically affirm not to disturb the Article 371 (A) of the Indian constitution.

And thirdly, Ramesh asked the BJP condemn the statement made by the JDSSM.

Mentioning that the BJP, in all its state level manifestos, promised ‘Uniform Civil Code,’ (UCC) Ramesh has asked the approach of BJP to the UCC in Nagaland.

Ramesh claimed that the Congress party gave full-fledged statehood to Nagaland in 1963, gave 371 (A) in 1962 and stated that Congress is the only party that can protect and preserve the article in letter and spirit. He added that Congress is only the party that could promote peace and harmony in Nagaland.

Ramesh further accused Nagaland government of failing to provide proper road connectivity, electricity, adequate sports facilities, which are the basic duties of the government.

Ramesh further stated that the Congress party would extend whole hearted support to the clean election campaigns. (Dimapur, EMN)
