Cong vice president to campaign in Manipur today

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]fter his Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya campaign, the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will arrive here tomorrow for his campaign in Manipur for the Lok Sabha elections.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit by the Congress leader, congress sources here said.
Rahul Gandhi will arrive around 1.30 pm at Tulihal airport in Imphal address a public meeting at the Kodompokpi ground at Wangjing in Manipur’s Thoubal district which is the native of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, in support of party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, Congress sources here said.
Soon after addressing the meeting, AICC leader is scheduled to fly to Mizoram to campaign for congress nominee CL Ruala in the hill state, sources added.Meanwhile Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has nominated Dr Kh Ibomcha Singh and Khamchinpou Zou as their candidates for inner and outer Manipur parliamentary seats while releasing its seventh list for the Lok sabha polls today.
With Dr Ibomcha of AAP, so far Manipur has as many as six candidates including sitting Congress MP Dr Meinya, former registrar of Manipur University Dr RK Ranjan of Bharatiya Janata Party, former IPS officer S Manaobi (Retd) of Trinamool Congress, Dr G Tonsana Sharma of Manipur Democratic People’s Front for the inner Manipur seat.
On the other hand with Khamchinpou Zou, there are seven candidates including sitting Congress MP Thangso Baite, former Professor of Manipur University Gangmumei Kamei of BJP, former lady MP Kim Gangte of Trinamool Congress, former Manipur minister Soro Lorho of Naga People’s Front, general secretary of JD(U) Manipur unit Lien Gangte, Lamlalmoi Gangte of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) and former finance minister Chungkhokai Doungel of Nationalist Congress Party for the outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.
Mention may be made that the first of polling for the seat of Outer Manipur would be conducted on April 9 and the second phase of polling for the Inner Manipur seat on April 17.
Last date for filing nomination papers has been fixed on March 26 and scrutiny of papers next day. The last date for withdrawal of papers would be on March 29 and counting of votes will be held on May 16.
