Confiscated foreign made cigarette destroyed

Seized foreign made cigarettes being set on fire at Diphupar police station on October 17.

Dimapur, Oct. 18 (EMN): In pursuance to the pre-trial destruction order passed by Somet Chumden Chang, chief judicial magistrate, Dimapur, on October 15, the office of the Public Prosecution, Dimapur, along with the destruction committee destroyed a total of 24,000 packets of foreign made cigarettes illegally imported to Dimapur on October 17 at Diphupar police station in the presence of the Diphupar village council chairman, head GB and others.

An update from the public prosecutor and chairman of destruction committee, T Marlemba stated that the Diphupar police arrested three accused persons for possession and transportation of the said seized cigarette and registered DPR PSC/ No. 91/2020 and DPR PSC/ No. 93/2020 U/S 20 (2) COPTA Act.

The report stated that the pre-trial destruction order was issued after confiscation of the article as prayed by the respective investigation officer under the grounds of no proper storage space, cigarette is hazardous to health, and vulnerable to theft.
