Mokokchung, Sep. 15 (EMN): The Mokokchung division of PWD, National Highways has informed that NH-702D – popularly unknown as Mokokchung-Mariani Road – will be blocked for three or more days as ‘new earth cutting for a diversion road at NH-702D location 48.3 km in Changki jurisdiction has initiated.’
Executive Engineer of PWD (NH) Mokokchung, Chubatoshi in a communiqué informed that the sinking portion in said location in Changki area has become “beyond restoration, therefore, a new diversion road at the upstream site has been initiated since yesterday.”
Commuters have been advised not to ply in Mokokchung-Mariani Road until the ‘diverted portion is properly treated and make fit for all vehicles to ply.’
Chubatoshi also added that vehicular movement at National Highway 702D had been disrupted and brought to a halt from September 10, however, with permission from Changki Village Council diversion for the sinking area on the upstream is been initiated and work is in progress.
The department informed that formation cutting is expected to be completed by this evening, however, slushy portion needs to be stabilized and traffic resumption might take 3-4 days or more.
It can be assumed that sinking portion in NH-702D location 48.3 km in Changki might have been caused by coal extraction at both down and up streams.
