Community Health Centre in Tening has only one doctor, laments student body
Dimapur, May 26 (EMN): The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) has expressed displeasure over the state government’s indifferent attitude towards health infrastructure in Tening, saying that the lone healthcare facility in the sub-division reels under manpower shortage and poor condition.
Reminding that the hospital at Tening is one of the first and oldest in the State, the student body said a Community Health Centre (CHC) is supposed to have six doctors on duty but the facility at Tening has only one doctor.
The ZSUN stated that despite the hue and cry for better healthcare system in view of the unprecedented pandemic, ‘the people of Tening sub-division are being neglected’ and termed it as government’s “lackadaisical attitude”.
“The CHC is the only hospital which will cater to the medical needs of the entire sub-division and for a single doctor to tend to them all is asking for the moon. Not to mention the lack of basic infrastructures and facilities like oxygen, ICU, ventilators etcetera, the absence of doctors and nurses in the hospital is glaring step motherly treatment to the people of the region,” read the press release from ZSUN.
“The people of the sub-division have been more than co-operative to the government since the first wave of Covid-19 and will continue to do so in the days to come. However, without the presence of medical personnel in the hospital, it will be a fight which cannot be won in the long run,” it added.
The union went on to state that the district as less Covid-19 cases today but complacency could trigger a spike in infections and cause untold misery.
“We do not ask for anything more than what a CHC is entitled and deserved by the people,” it stated, while appealing to the state government look into the matter.
“The threat of the third wave is eminent and it is significant for hospitals to be working at their optimum levels so we hope that the government will positively respond and give the people what they deserve,” it continued.
