Committee reviews status of prisoners

[caption id="attachment_246769" align="alignleft" width="300"] Under-Trial Review Committee members pose for a group photo during its monthly sitting in Mokokchung on April 30.[/caption] Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): The Under-Trial Review Committee (UTRC), Mokokchung, conducted its monthly sitting at the premises of District Jail on April 30 under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA). The committee members consisted of Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan; Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, Raguramarajan; MDLSA secretary WV Patton; and assistant jailor, Chingmak Chang. The committee reviewed the status of the under-trial prisoners and convicts as per the standard operating procedure formulated by the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) under the directions of the Supreme Court in WP(C) No 406/13 titled Re-inhuman conditions in 1382 prisons. The status of inmates were found to be satisfactory and the district jail authority was requested to follow-up on the medical evaluation status of one inmate as per the previous recommendation of the UTRC. After the sitting, the committee visited the district jail campus along with Sentinaro, MDLSA project assistant, and Tajungla, panel lawyer in-charge of jails. They also interacted with the jail inmates. Possibility of introducing vocational training facilities and other welfare activities for the inmates were discussed. Provision of medical aid facilities were also discussed and requested the jail authorities to follow-up in the next session.
