Dimapur, Jan. 3: Coordination Committee for the upcoming Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) elections held its first meeting in the DC’s conference hall, Kohima, on January 2. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor, who is also the convener of the Committee.
Informing purpose of the meeting, the DC said it was convened to discuss on how to maintain a healthy and peaceful atmosphere for ensuring a free and fair elections. He said the State Election Commission had evolved Model Code of Conduct for the guidance of political parties and candidates, which is made operational.
The DC informed the members that the Committee was constituted to ensure compliance of the Model Code of Conduct by all political parties and contesting candidates and for considering specific cases of violation of the Code. He also highlighted the Do’s and Don’t’s for the candidates and political parties to be adhered to from the announcement and until the completion of the elections process.
Rovilatuo also urged the GBs to study the situation in their respective colonies/wards and inform the district administration and the police in connection with any grievances.
Additional SP, Kohima, I Hemang also briefed the members on the security arrangement prepared by the Police Department for the elections. He said police personnel have been arranged accordingly to the situation of the areas as normal, sensitive and hyper sensitive including the arrangement of 15 Groups of IR for security of the polling officials, GBs and the general public. GBs also shared their views and opinions during the meeting.
ADC Kohima and Returning Officer, Lithrongla Tongpi called upon the GBs to maintenance law and order in their respective areas as they are the eye and ear of the district administration. Informing that voter slip will be issued before the polling day, she asked the GBs, and ward/colony leaders to assist during the issue.
Assistant Election Officer, Mhathung Ngullie also highlighted on some important points in regard with the Do’s and Don’t’s based on the rules.
