Colleges urged to shape young minds

Dimapur, Dec. 8 (EMN): Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University (NU), Prof. P Lal has underlined the necessity of the universities and colleges to contribute in shaping the young minds for uplift of the country.
Speaking at the annual general body meeting of the Nagaland College Principals’ Forum (NCPF) at St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, on December 8, Prof. Lal has stressed on the need for colleges to keep track of the changes to keep the young people ignited particularly in the technological front.
Professor Lal also expressed the need to concentrate on taking up skill oriented courses and suggested for choice based credit course in all colleges and also briefed on Swayamprabha programme. He also expressed his concern that the colleges in the State, be it government or private to renew and reaffirm their relationship with the university.
Saying that improvement of colleges is the highest responsibility of a university, the Vice Chancellor assured his best to raise the standards at higher level. Professor Lal also reminded the principals of the initiative of State governor, PB Acharya asking all 65 affiliated colleges of Nagaland to identify such students of technical expertise and intimate to the office of the Governor so as to help the young expertise in availing assistance to take up any venture through Mudra loan.
Earlier in the morning, the Vice Chancellor held a short session with the students of St. Joseph’s College and exhorted them to be focused and firm in deciding what they want to do and become and to fulfil their goals.
Principal of Kohima College and president NCPF, Dr. Watijungshi, in his welcome address, informed that 2016-17 annual report showed a record of 50 registered private colleges and 15 government colleges. He lauded the State university for recognising the need of the present institutions and the contributions towards uplift of the standard of the colleges in the State.
Principal of St. Joseph’s College, Rev. Dr. Father Sebastian, who was the host of the occasion, also stressed on catching up with globalisation, privatisation and liberalisation. Saying that the students are a big asset to the society, Dr. Sebastian said the colleges should produce employable graduates.
Dr. SR Kaisa, vice principal of St. Joseph College, Jakhama, offered a special prayer on the occasion. A special song and Rengma cultural dance were performed by the students of St. Joseph College, Jakhama.
