Colleges in Mokokchung district organise students’ confluence
MOKOKCHUNG — Fazl Ali College Students’ Union, Peoples College Students’ Union, Tuli College Students’ Union and Jubilee Memorial College Students’ Council organised the Mokokchung District College Students’ Confluence2023, hosted at Fazl Ali College on the theme “Meraki” (the essence of oneness) on April 1.
Alemtemshi Jamir, Rtd. Chief Secretary was the chief guest of the programme.
Jamir, in address, dwelled on the imperatives of identity and competition, reforms, technology, adaptation and God.
‘We are literally swamped by multinational corporations that know no political or administrative boundaries, and who invade our homes with their products. Therefore, in the process of modernisation, we have already lost quite a bit of our tribal identity and with that our spirit of competition and survival,’ he said.
In this connection, he maintained that in order to fit ourselves in a world of survival of the fittest, ‘we need to have the best environment and the best of facilities; and to have the best facilities and environment we need the best government and we need to ask the question whether we have the best government’.
He also said that ‘clean election’ campaign has not succeeded, “erstwhile path of ‘village candidates’ completely forgetting the principles of democracy which enshrine the rights of manas espoused in the principles of one man one vote”.
He further said that money has been used blatantly and once elected, they are unable to stay in the opposition even for one day and are inclined for an ‘opposition-less government’.
“One wonders what that means in a democracy. What a mockery and caricature of democracy. Everything is reduced to money and power,” he lamented and urged the AKM to take the lead in curbing the use of wealth in elections along with the church.
He shared about technological singularity, ‘where computers process faster than the brains of all mankind put together and a new civilisation emerges’.
In this regard, he said although primitive tribes are barely a hundred and fifty years, today we are reaching heights reached by other people elsewhere.
“We only need to be sincere and approach our education and our studies with ‘MERAKI’. With our feelings, then we will reach where others have not reached,” he said.
He also concluded that neither the Bible or the word of God contradicts anything scientific.
Jamir also added that scientists have not created anything new – not even an Atom. They are only discovering and reinventing what God has created a long time ago.
“Let us remember that AI has no passion or heart, quantum computers have no emotions, robots have no soul. But you do and that you live on the principle laid down in the Bible — the greatest of these is Love”.
“Based on them you have Meraki and you will circumvent any problem in life,” he added.
Dr. I Wati Imchen, Principal of Fazl Ali College, congratulated the students of the four colleges for organising a beautiful programme and encouraged the students to maintain the unity and harmony that they have shown. He also challenged the principals and teachers of the four colleges to learn from the young minds and to organise such conferences for teachers as well.
Dr. Amongla Longkumer, Principal of People’s College, congratulated the students and spoke on the importance of organising such meets and keeping people-to-people connections in the modern world.
The AKM also encouraged the students to come out of their comfort zones and to be active participants of change and to be students with integrity, vision and dedication.
