Colleges across Nagaland host academic, student events

DIMAPUR — Unity College of Teacher Education in Dimapur, Model Institute of Teacher Education (MITE) in Kohima, Fazl Ali College in Mokokchung, Sao Chang College in Tuensang, and Yingli College in Longleng held various academic and student engagement events between August 12 and 14.


On Thursday, MITE Kohima held its 13th graduation day at the MITE Auditorium with Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhriehloulie Yhome, as the special guest.


According to an update, Dr. Yhome, speaking on the occasion, praised the teaching profession, the faculty’s contribution, and the institution’s growth while stressing the adoption of modern educational practices and the role of teachers in shaping future generations.


He underscored the importance of integrating modern educational practices, such as self-declarative assessments, artificial intelligence, vocational education, and a renewed focus on early childhood education.


Also on Thursday, Fazl Ali College observed freshers’ day for first semester BA, B.Sc., and B.Com. students on the theme “Springboard: towards a new horizon”.

Principal Dr. I Wati Imchen encouraged students to take on challenges, followed by speeches from Yimdangjungla Jamir, representing the freshers, and Aosashi C Kichu, general secretary, FACSU. The event featured a Mr. and Miss Fresher 2025 contest, won by Walunir K Tsudir (B.Sc. Chemistry) and Likhum Sangtam (BA Sociology), respectively, along with sub-title awards.


Sao Chang College, Tuensang, hosted a hybrid interdepartmental seminar on Thursday focusing on cultural identity and sustainable agriculture.


The event, chaired by Assistant Professor Watisenla Sangtam, began with an online paper presentation by Mekory Dodum, research scholar at Tezpur University, on Nyishi naming practices in Arunachal Pradesh. This was followed by an in-person presentation by Assistant Professor Tekameren Walling on “Vermiwash” as a natural liquid fertiliser for sustainable farming.

On August 13, Yingli College Longleng observed the 5th Anniversary of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan with a mass pledge organised by the NSS wing. NSS Programme Officer Dr. Nurul Islam briefed participants on NMBA, with the pledge led by Assistant Professor Kiriahungle. Vice Principal Dr. B Henshet Phom delivered the concluding remarks.


On August 12, Unity College of Teacher Education organised an interactive session on the theme “Amplifying abilities, embracing differences” with faculty, staff, and third-semester B.Ed. students of the 2024–2026 batch.


The resource person, Mesenipong Pongen, managing director of 7 Heven Dimapur, shared his personal experience living with cerebral palsy and encouraged student teachers to accept the uniqueness of every learner and teach according to their needs.
