College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry Jalukie holds farmer–scientist interaction at Tening.

DIMAPUR — The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (CoVSc & AH), Jalukie, organized a Kishan Gosti-cum- farmer–scientist interaction programme at Tening, Peren district, on the theme “Smart livestock and poultry farming practices for strengthening socio-economic livelihood of tribal youth of Nagaland” under the NEH component.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Zeshmarani, head of Department of Livestock Production Management, who emphasised the importance of adopting smart and scientific livestock and poultry farming practices to enhance productivity and improve the livelihood of tribal farmers, an update stated.
During the technical session, Prof. Palimsammi, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, delivered a lecture on methods of estrus detection and the benefits of artificial insemination in livestock, highlighting their role in improving breeding efficiency.

Helungsuipoing Mbungtsa, Farm Manager, discussed maize cultivation practices along with effective weed and pest management techniques to ensure better feed resources for livestock.
An awareness-cum-animal health camp was also conducted during the programme. As part of the camp, 100 dogs were vaccinated against rabies, and sick animals were treated by the veterinary team from the college.
Farmers were also provided with antiparasitic drugs, antibiotic powders, multivitamins, and acaricides.
A total of 160 farmers attended the programme. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Lungchui Zeliang, chairman of Tening Town Council.
During the event, 1065 chicks, 17 bags of poultry concentrate feed, maize seeds, feed supplements, poultry feed troughs, and water pipes were distributed among the beneficiary farmers.
