Col. CK Nayudu Trophy: Nagaland demolish Arunachal by 346 runs

DIMAPUR —  Nagaland defeated Arunachal Pradesh (AP)  by 346 runs at the ongoing Col. CK Nayudu Trophy 2023-24 (Men’s U23), played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, Chümoukedima, on Tuesday.

Nagaland, who won the toss, elected to bat first and in their first innings scored 260 runs losing all wickets.

A maiden century from Zipa Pohena (108 runs) laid the foundation for the Nagaland U-23 side, while Sujal (34 runs), Hem (27) and Tohuka (25) also contributed to the team’s total score.

Amarjeet Sharma with 4 wickets, Leki Tsering (3 wickets) and T Muri (2 wickets) were the successful bowlers for the Arunachal side.

Arunachal were 88 runs all out in their first innings after an impressive bowling from the Nagaland team.

Raja (5 wickets), Hem (2 wickets), Neizekho and Dip with a wicket each, demolished the rival team.  Leki Tsering (22) runs and Teli Rade (17 runs) were the only notable run getters for the Arunachal side.

In their second innings, Nagaland mustered up another 218 runs losing all wickets. Contributions from Afzal (53 runs), Hem (50), Sujal (34) and Mughavi (27) steered the team to a comfortable position for a big win.

Mibom with 5 wickets, T Muri (3 wickets) and Amarjeet (2 wickets) were the successful bowlers for Arunachal.

Arunachal bowed down again with only 44 runs all-out in their second innings.

For the Nagaland bowling, unit Neizekho led the charge scalping 4 wickets while Raja (3 wickets), Odilemba (2 wickets) and Hem (1 wicket) helped wind up the proceedings.

Nagaland’s U-23 next match will be against Manipur at from Jan. 28 to the 31st.
