DIMAPUR — The Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) has extended its support towards the representation and the demands by Concerned Aspirants Group with regard to the demand of age relaxation to 37 years for government job applicants in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the “significant disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” CNSA called upon the government in a press note to extend the age limit for government job applicants.

It said that this demand comes as the pandemic delayed career opportunities for millions of individuals across the country and state, many of whom now find themselves unable to meet the current age criteria due to the prolonged public health crisis.

Noting that the COVID-19 pandemic led to widespread lockdowns, business closures, and delays in the recruitment process across various sectors, including the government, it said that many aspiring candidates who were preparing for government jobs found their efforts halted or postponed due to these unprecedented circumstances, which has unfairly penalised individuals who have crossed the age limit through no fault of their own.

Further, it said, the government has a responsibility to acknowledge these unique circumstances and make provisions for those affected. By extending the age limit to 37 years, the government can ensure that qualified candidates who lost crucial years during the pandemic are not denied the opportunity to contribute to the public sector, it maintained.

The CNSA urged the government to take immediate steps to provide the age relaxation for all government job applicants, ensuring fair and equal opportunities for all.

“We also call for a review of recruitment policies that account for pandemic-related disruptions, so that no candidate is unfairly disadvantaged in the future,” it said, adding that the pandemic has affected everyone’s lives, but it has disproportionately impacted the career prospects of many young professionals.

“We hope the government will act quickly to rectify this situation and give individuals a fair chance to achieve their career goals,” it concluded.
