Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN): Council of Nagalim Churches (CNC) has mourned the demise of Rev. Dr. John A Sundquist, former executive director of American Baptist International Ministries (IM), who passed away on February 21 at his home at Bethany Beach in Swayer, Michigan, USA.

CNC general secretary Ikato Chishi Swu has described him as a passionate missionary, a peacemaker and a person who has a heart for justice, liberty and uplift the downtrodden people like the Nagas. CNC also termed him as a true friend, who has a genuine love and concern for the Naga people.

“In 1998 when the Naga people boycotted Indian elections and opted for a solution not election, he took the initiative to write 6000 letters to churches around the world to pray and support the Naga issue,” the statement read. He also participated in Naga reconciliation meetings organised by FNR (Forum for Naga Reconciliation). It added that his good deeds towards the Nagas would always be remembered and cherished.

CNC lamented that in his demise, the Nagas have lost a true friend, a sincere supporter and a fervent prayer partner adding the vacuum created by his loss would be hard to fill.

CNC further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed that the Almighty God would grant comfort and peace in their hour of grief.
