Dimapur, August 7 (EMN): In order to prevent and control outbreak of vector borne diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis (JE) etc, due to the early onset of monsoon season and recent heavy rain and flood in the district, the District Health Society Dimapur have requested the public to follow the following simple measures to protect oneself from any vector borne diseases. What You Can Do: 1. Prevent mosquito breeding grounds. 2. Wear long sleeve and body covering clothes when working outside. 3. Use insecticide treated mosquito nets while sleeping ( day and night). 4. Avoid rearing pigs near residence as the JE virus multiples in the pig very quickly. 5. Introduce Larvivorous fish in water bodies. 6. All stagnant water collection should be filled up. 7. Keep water-filled vessels and tanks tightly covered. 8. Keep surroundings clean and dry. 9. Regularly discard the water collected in the flowerpot saucer. 10. Remove all objects that may collect stagnant water and favour mosquito breeding from your surroundings such as old tyre, unused containers, broken /discarded vessels etc 11. If one is suffering from high fever, consult a doctor immediately.
