Chief Minister TR Zeliang has expressed deep concern over the developments taking place in Tuensang district on communal lines and has instructed the administration to ensure that the situation is contained. He also directed senior officers from the administration and the police to monitor the situation closely. The Chief Minister has also directed the State police to ensure that adequate forces are deployed to prevent untoward incidents by miscreants wanting to take advantage of the situation.
Despite taking all possible steps on the part of the government to prevent flare up of the situation, the Chief Minister felt that it is imperative that the people at large be accommodative and restrain themselves in their words and actions so as to restore peace in the district. He also appealed to all the concerned tribal organizations to sort out differences amicably and to maintain calm in the district.
He further expressed his satisfaction at the close coordination that is being maintained between the administration, police and the Assam Rifles in Tuensang, Media Cell, CMO, said in a release today.
Co-ordination meeting resolutions
A coordination meeting initiated by the CKS along with all the tribal unions and other organisations of Tuensang town such as Sutt, Kutt, Putt, Tenyiemi, Ao, Sumi, Lotha, Tikhir, Gorkha, Hindu community, Muslim community, Pastors Union, Sectors Union and GBs Union was held with regard to the press release issued by Yimchunger Public Co-ordination Committee (YPCC) and the prevailing situation in Tuensang town on Saturday.
The meeting strongly condemned the press note on quit notice issued by YPCC and urged all citizens of Tuensang not to adhere to it but jointly handle the situation for maintaining peace and tranquility in the town.
It resolved that untimely gathering and creating of nuisance in the public vicinity of Tuensang should be checked by all and sector GBs, unions, tribal unions should jointly ‘steer’ all sectors and check all unlawful activities in and around Tuensang.
Anybody taking law into their own hand should be booked as per the law, the meeting cautioned while also resolving that random closer of shops in Tuensang without proper order from appropriate authority should not be permitted. This was stated in a release by CKS president MP Nokshanga and general secretary Y Toshi Chang today.
