KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 17

THE newly elected Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLA CM Chang took oath in the State Assembly on Tuesday Speaker Chotisuh Sazo administered the oath of affirmation to Chang in the Assembly hall.
Chang was re-elected in the September 4 Noksen Assembly constituency bye-election. He defeated his rival Congress candidate Lima Onen Chang by 2863 votes. He polled 5708 votes, including postal ballot papers while Lima Onen polled 2845 votes including the postal ballots.
Mention may be made here that the bye-poll was necessitated following the resignation of Minister for School Education CM Chang on March 14 last. He did this to retain the lone Lok Sabha seat from Nagaland in order to avoid the parliamentary bye-polls as parliamentary elections are due by early part of 2014.
The bye-election to the Noksen A/C was held on September 4 while the result was declared on September 7.
Chang, who is also the sitting MP from Nagaland to Lok Sabha would tender his resignation within next few days and continue to hold the portfolio Minister for School Education in the DAN-III government.
NLA Deputy Speaker Er. Levi Rengma, Parliamentary Secretary Labour & Employment, Law & Justice and land revenue Dr. Nicky Kire and NLA secretary A.E. Lotha were also present at the function held at the Speaker’s Chamber in the NLA Secretariat.
