Dimapur, Sep. 12 (EMN): Chief Minister TR Zeliang is grieved and pained to learn about the demise of former Minister, N Yeangpong Konyak after prolonged illness at Kohima.
In a condolence message addressed to Henwau Konyak and family, Zeliang stated that late Konyak was a prominent Naga statesman, he was a man dedicated to the service of the Naga society whose immense contribution as a fair, efficient and charismatic leader will ever be remembered.
While lamenting over the loss, Zeliang on behalf of the Government of Nagaland extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members at this difficult moment of pain and grief. CM also pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.
NLA Speaker: Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) has expressed shock over the demise of former Member and Minister, N. Yeangphong Konyak, on September 12 at Oking Hospital in Kohima after prolonged illness. He was 69. He is survived by his wife and five children.
In a condolence message, the NLA speaker, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier stated that Konyak son of Ngeamnyei was born on August 24, 1948. He was educated at Government High School, Mon. Prior to his entering into politics in 1982, he had served as School Teacher from 1970-72; President, NNO, Tizit from 1974-78; Area Council Member from 1979-82; Executive Member, District Congress(I), Mon from 1978-80 and General Secretary, Contractors’ Union, Mon District from 1977-82. Late N. Yeangphong Konyak was a good sportsman. He became a Member of Legislative Assembly in 1982 and appointed Minister of State for Physical Education, Sports and Youth Service, 1984-86. He was appointed as Cabinet Minister for PHED from 04-11-1986 to 21-11-1987; Cabinet Minister for Physical Education, Sports and Youth Welfare in 1987. He was again appointed Minister for Forest, Ecology, Environment and Wildlife Preservation from 15-05-1990 to 01-04-1992.
Aier regretted that his death has caused a great loss to the Nagas in general and the Konyak community in particular and the void created by him will be difficult to fill.
In this hour of gloom and grief, the speaker on behalf of the NLA conveyed heartfelt condolences and pray to God to grant solace, courage and comfort to the bereaved family members to withstand this moment and also to the departed soul to rest in peace.
SC Jamir: Governor of Odisha, SC Jamir has expressed shock over the passing away of ex-minister and a prominent leader, Yeangpong Konyak.
“Life on Earth is no doubt transitory and even traveler but the worth of a man is judged by his deeds during his short sojourn on this earth. One day or the other the dead has to come to every human being. Late Yeangpong Konyak proved to be a man of conviction and strong resolve; and fully committed to the service of the people. He was one of the pioneers from the Konyak Community,” the condolence message read.
Jamir lamented that his death is a great lost for the Konyak community in particular and the Nagas in general. The governor along with his wife conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.
Wangyuh Konyak: The ex- Member of Parliament (LS), W. Wangyuh Konyak has expressed shock over the demise of ex-minister, N Yeangphong Konyak at Kohima on September 12, after prolong illness.
In a condolence note, Wangyuh stated that Konyak was a one strong pillar and play an integral part in building the Konyak society. He also lamented that his demise has left a huge vacuum in political arena in particular and Nagas in general. Though he is no more physically with us, his deeds will be remembered in the days to come, the message added.
Wangyuh along with his family conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray to the departed soul to rest in peace.
EX-PAN: The Ex-Parliamentarian Association of Nagaland (EX-PAN) is saddened by the demise of former NLA member and Minister, N. Yeangphong Konyak, on September 12 at Kohima.
In a condolence message, President of EX-PAN, T. Khongo stated that Konyak joined politics in 1982 and was elected as Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly in the Sixth and Seventh Assembly and appointed as Minister of State and Cabinet Minister.
“Late N. Yeangphong Konyak was a dedicated leader who tirelessly worked for the upliftment of the people. His desire to serve the people with humility made him live a life of principled public leader,” the condolence message added.
Lamenting over the irreparable loss to the state in general and the Konyak in particular, the association expressed that the valuable contributions he rendered to the people as a politician, social worker and statesman for the cause of the people will always be cherished. Further, EX-PAN pray for the departed soul top rest in eternal peace.
ENPO: The Eastern Naga People’s Organisation (ENPO) is grieved to over the sudden demise of a veteran leader, N. Yeangphong Konyak, Ex-MLA from Tizit Assembly Constituency Mon District.
“Late Yeangphong was one of the prominent political leader and a great human being. He had dedicated his life working for the welfare of the people of Eastern Nagaland in particular and the Nagas in general. His contributions and sacrifices during his leadership for the development and uplift for the people of Eastern Nagaland will be remembered by all,” the condolence note conveyed.
ENPO lamented that his demise is a great loss to the people of Eastern Nagaland in general and Konyak community in particular.
Further, the organization conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and pray for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
