Tamthing’s hat-trick send St. Joseph’s to victory over Cluster FC; FC Ziezou, Turaco FC, Naga Jaguars FC enter pre-quarters

Kohima, Nov. 3 (EMN): Hat-trick hero Tamthing helped St. Joseph’s College beat Cluster FC 4-0 and enter the second round of the ongoing 23rd Classic Club held at the Kohima local ground on Friday.
While FC Ziezou, Turaco FC, and Naga Jaguars FC booked their pre-quarterfinal berth in the tournament after winning their respective matches.
It may be mentioned Group A, Group D and Group H with five teams each in a group; one winning team has to play in the second round in order to enter the pre-quarters while the other groups, the winning teams directly qualify for the pre-quarters.
In the match, St Joseph’s College blanked Cluster FC 4-0 in the last match to set up a clash with Renegades FC in the second round of the tournament on Oct. 8.
Tamthing completed his hat-trick in the 18th minute with his score coming in the 5th, 8th and 19 minutes respectively of the first half to become the first hat-trick scorer of the tournament.
Katoho added the fourth goal in the 51st minutes through a stunning kick in the second half to finish the game for St Joseph’s. Cluster FC had to blame themselves for their humiliating defeat as they lacked the finishing touch despite numerous attacks to find the back of the net throughout the match.
FC Ziezou beat Megaton FC 3-1 via tiebreaker after the match ended in a goalless draw during the stipulated time. The win puts FC Ziezou in the pre-quarters of the tournament.
FC Ziezou will need to find the rhythm if they were to qualify to the quarter as they will be facing either winner of Barak FC or Kohima College in the pre-quarters on Oct. 10.
Napoleon’s brace in the second half and a goal each from Maraiba and Staiba helped Turaco FC to beat Midland Youth Organisation 4-0 in the second match to enter the pre-quarters.
In the match, Midland Youth Organisation and Turaco were equally poised until Midland conceded a goal in the additional time of the first half as Maraiba opened the scoring for Turaco FC to take the lead.
The second half, Turaco came back stronger and Staiba scored the second goal in the 56th minute, while Napoleon scored twice in the 57th minute and 59th minute respectively to end the match in favour of Turaco FC.
Naga Jaguars FC edged past Danger FC 5-2 in the third match to enter pre-quarters.
In the match, Temjem Imchen opened the scoring for Danger FC in the 8th minute but resistant Naga Jaguars pulled back the equaliser through Heno Lam in the 17th minute and Mehouzelie made it 2-1 for Jaguars FC in the 29th minute of the first half.
In the second half, Longlem Tikiam scored the third goal in 44th minute for Jaguars FC, however one minute later Bichamo Odyuo scored a consolation goal in the 45 minute but it was not enough for Danger FC as Naga Jaguars scored two more goal trough Shamba Samson and Dziesodilhou to make it 5-2 at the end of the final whistle.
With the win, Naga Jaguars FC will face Turaco FC in the pre-quarters on Nov. 9.
