Kohima, Nov. 12 (EMN): Yhanshalo Kemp scored two goals in each half as Deja Vu Edition FC overcame Naga Jaguars FC 2 - 1 to enter the semi-finals of the ongoing 24th Classic Cup 2018 at the Khuociezie local ground, in Kohima on Mon. Nov. 12.
In the first quarter-final match of the tournament, Deja Vu took hold of the game and dominated the proceeding as Naga Jaguars sluggishly defended the score in the first half.
Deja Vu failed to break through the defensive line but playmaker Awangbou got his team into the driver’s seat through his assist, a long ball from Awang found Yhanshalo Kemp as he managed to control the ball and thump home over the keeper to take the lead in the 39th minute.
In the second half, Deja Vu should have finished the match but Deja Vu forwards were culpable of wasting numerous chances as Naga Jaguars made their efforts and found the much needed equaliser through their striker Ato D. Vadeo in the 70th minute. In the process, Naga jaguars captain Aphretuo Kire latches on a crossing inside the area as Vadeo was in the right position to tap in the goal and hand them the equaliser.
In the dying minutes, a controversial penalty was given to the Deja Vu by the referee following a clearance from the defender hit his hand. Yhanshalo took the penalty and slotted home in the 80th minute to seal off the victory.
Deja would have won by a bigger margin as their striker Khangatar missed a sitter inside the area through an assist by Yhanshalo as he shot the ball wide off the target. Tingey Konyak free-kick was inches away from scoring but Kire managed to pull the ball out of the danger zone. Yhanshalo also hit the crossbar in the second half.
With the win, the winner of the second quarter-final match between Head Hunter and Fore Runner Thizama on Tuesday will clash with Deja Vu Edition FC in the semi-finals match on Nov.16.
