Classic Club beat KPC to retain Challenger Cup

Kohima, Nov. 18 (EMN): Classic Club Kohima (CCK) defeated Kohima Press Club (KPC) 9-4 to retain the Challenger Cup trophy at an entertaining friendly match played here at the Khuochiezie ground in the capital town on Sun. Nov. 18.

The Challenger Cup is a yearly football exhibition event played between the two clubs as part of the annual football tournament- the Classic Cup, with the aim to strengthen the friendship and camaraderie between the members of the clubs and also to encourage one another in their respective roles in public/social service.

Playing the 11th edition of the annual friendly today, skipper K Neibou Sekhose opened the account for CCK early in the first half while Ruovizhalie Bubu scored five goals later. A brace from Kekhriesetuo and Mhaphruo’s late goal sealed the fate of the Press Club.

KPC fought hard to come back but had to settle with a hat-trick from Asalie and one goal from Ketu Viluo.

MLA Chotisuh Sazo, who is also a CCK member, gave away the prizes.

Earlier, before the match began, members of the two clubs paid rich tributes to two of their colleagues who passed away this year: Xavier Rutsa, who was serving as the president of KPC and Zasielatuo Solo, the vice president of CCK.

Highest scorer: Ruovizhalie Bubu (CCK)

Best midfielder: Kekhrievor (CCK)

Best scorer: K Neibou Sekhose (CCK)

Best goalkeeper: HK Chishi
